Roullete (pronounced: roo-LEEN) is a casino game that is simple to play and has an element of mystery and excitement to it. It is a game that has been around for centuries and is still played worldwide in casinos, private rooms, and home games. It has many different betting options and a wide range of payouts.
To start playing roulette, you need to decide how much money you would like to wager and place your chips on the table map, or “douzaine” as it is called in French. There are a total of 10 types of bets that vary in their win to lose ratio. You should begin by placing bets that are known as outside bets, which are groups of numbers instead of single digits and offer a lower payout if you win.
Inside bets are placed on individual numbers and have a higher win to loss ratio, but the house edge is greater. You can also bet on rows of numbers or a grouping of numbers known as a dozen. This bet pays out 17-1 if the winning number is in one of these groups, but the odds are quite low.
The wheel consists of a solid wooden disk slightly convex in shape with a rim that contains thirty-six metal compartments (or “canoes” as they are called by the croupiers) painted alternately red and black and numbered nonconsecutively from 1 to 36. There are also two green compartments numbered 0 and 00 on the American wheel. The ball travels through the wheels compartments and settles in a number slot which is determined by the position of the bet. Once the ball has landed, the dealer announces the winning number and collects all losing bets into the casino’s income and pays out any winnings.
