However, the findings of this study should be interpreted with caution, as they were based on a community sample of students, and the relationship between gambling apps and harm requires further research. Also, the use of GPS is not ideal for studying the risk of developing gambling problems as it may lead to the creation of a ‘gambling bubble’ where users engage with the app continuously regardless of their actual chance of winning. Further research is required in order to tease out the mechanisms of this phenomenon.
